Shore Acres residents are anxious ahead of this weekend's storms

Some Shore Acres residents are still recovering from Hurricane Idalia. This storm is coming right as they were planning to move back into their homes.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — As Tampa Bay prepares for storms this weekend, residents of Shore Acres are worried having experienced several instances of flooding.

"We absolutely have PTSD. We hear about the storms and the anxiety just hits," said Meghan Martin, who has lived in Shore Acres for over seven years.

Most recently, residents living there suffered serious damage from Hurricane Idalia. That hurricane put most people in the neighborhood out of their homes due to the damage.

"We had pretty significant flooding and the flood water stayed for about eight hours. So it really got a chance to seep in," Martin explained.

That damage forced her family and their four cats to move into a one-bedroom condo for the last few months. They had been preparing to move back into their Shore Acres home this weekend.

"The timing of this storm has not been ideal, unfortunately," Martin added.

Everything they were able to salvage from Hurricane Idalia is still sitting out in a POD container in their driveway. Their main concern is keeping everything in the PODs dry.

"We’re really hoping the flooding is minimal and that it stays out of the house and in the street," Martin said.

Martin said a majority of her neighbors were also planning to move back into their homes this and next week. The storm could push their plans back even further, depending on how severe it is.
