ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — After a tornado touched down Tuesday in St. Petersburg, the Tampa Bay area could see another round of severe storms heading into the weekend as our roller coaster weather pattern continues.

On the heels of a warm front, another cold front will push in late Friday night. This next round of storms puts the Tampa Bay area under a Level 1 (out of 5) threat or "marginal" risk for severe weather. This threat is lower than what we saw on Tuesday, a Level 3.

The timing of this latest storm system is expected to come during the evening and overnight hours Friday night into Saturday morning.

Most of the storms will occur while you are sleeping so please make sure to download the 10 Tampa Bay app and turn the notifications on so that if there is a warning while you're sleeping you can wake up and take action promptly if needed.

The main threat includes strong to severe storms with damaging winds, but an isolated tornado can't be ruled out. Again, this threat looks to be less than what we just saw on Tuesday.

The front will linger to the south which will allow for us to continue to have some light rain throughout Sunday. Next week we already have another front on the way for Tuesday.

Let's break down the potential threats and storm timing:

The Storm Prediction Center currently has most of the Tampa Bay area under a marginal risk for severe weather, with stronger storms possible further north in the Southeastern U.S. along parts of Alabama, Georgia and the Carolinas. The front is expected to move through between 7 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday.

Right now, the timing for strong storms to potentially become severe is expected to take place during the overnight hours, so make sure you have a way to get alerts to keep you and your loved ones safe.

While the last weather system that brought a severe line of storms quickly passed through the Tampa Bay area, this system is expected to stick around longer. It's not expected to stay severe, but with the lingering system, it'll keep the rain chances higher for both Saturday and Sunday.
