A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for parts of Polk County for the primary threat of damaging winds.
The warning is in effect until 12:45 p.m. Northeastern Hillsborough County was originally in the warning but the storm moved out of the area.
National Weather Service meteorologists say the storm was located north of Lakeland and is moving east at 25 mph. Lakeland, Polk City, Kathleen and the surrounding areas may be impacted by the storm.
It could produce wind gusts of up to 60 mph, which could damage roofs, siding and trees, the weather service said.
People should move indoors and wait until the storm has passed.
