Watch: Landspout moves through, damages Polk County farm

The landspout occurred Tuesday evening during a series of thunderstorms that rolled through the Tampa Bay area.

ALTURAS, Fla. — New video shows a landspout blowing through a farm in Polk County.

The footage, captured around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday by Michael Steen of Good Time Adventures, shows the landspout knocking the roof of a farm in Alturas, sending sheets of metal flying through the yard.

"It destroyed a camper and damaged the chicken pen, resulting in the loss of some chickens," Steen said, in the description of the video uploaded to YouTube.

"Look out, boy! Lookout!" Steen can be heard saying while recording the spout going through the farm.

The National Weather Service is referring to the formation as a landspout, a type of tornado that forms starting from the ground and ascends rather than from a rotating supercell. Landspouts typically have weaker circulation, according to 10 Tampa Bay Meteorologist Natalie Ferrari.
