TAMPA, Fla. — If you don't have a ride to an evacuation shelter ahead of Hurricane Ian, don't worry — Uber has got you covered.
The rideshare app announced on Tuesday that it is offering free round-trip rides to and from state-approved shelters throughout the Tampa Bay area
The company will cover up to $30 each way. Here's how to activate the deal.
- Open the Uber app on your phone
- Tap "Account" on the bottom right corner
- Tap "Wallet"
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and tap "+ Add promo code"
- Enter code "IANRELIEF"
- Schedule a ride to any state-approved Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco or Manatee County evacuation shelter
The promo code must be entered before the ride is requested in order for it to apply. Driver-partner earnings will not be affected, according to the company.

As Hurricane Ian quickly approaches the Tampa Bay area, local authorities are stressing the importance of following evacuation orders to keep you and your family safe.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said if your home is under a mandatory evacuation order, it's important to get to safety on Tuesday. Tuesday is also the day to finalize plans and gather supplies if you're planning on sheltering in place.
