St. Pete sewer treatment facility goes offline due to Hurricane Helene

City leaders estimate that it will take 48 hours to resume plant operations after it is turned off.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — St. Petersburg city officials have decided to turn off power at the Northeast Sewer Treatment Facility to protect the plant from Hurricane Helene's storm surge.

The shutdown will impact residents and businesses north of 30th Avenue N and east of I-275/Haines Road, city leaders said. This is reportedly the only facility that will be affected by storm surge.

Those impacted should not do the following:

  • Drain water
  • Take showers
  • Do laundry
  • Flush toilets

City leaders estimate that it will take 48 hours to resume plant operations after it is turned off.
