Pinellas EOC unveils Storm Surge Protector map

The Pinellas County Emergency Operations Center unveiled a new interactive map Monday to encourage residents to evacuate during a hurricane.
The Pinellas EOC Storm Surge Protector application provides you with the potential storm surge on a property for the evacuation level indicated and for higher evacuation levels beyond that.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Are you vulnerable to deadly storm surge? The Pinellas County Emergency Operations Center wrapped up this information meeting to make sure you are ready for this hurricane season.

They unveiled a pretty informative Storm Surge Protector website application to encourage you to evacuate during a storm. It is not the same thing as your evacuation level, even though the two mapping tools can look similar. This application provides you with the potential storm surge on a property for the evacuation level indicated and for higher evacuation levels beyond that.

For example, if you are in evacuation level A you are vulnerable to all levels of storm surge from evacuation level A through E. If the property is in a non-evacuation level there will be no storm surge depth returned for any of the five evacuation levels.

Simply type in your address and it tells you how much storm surge and water will be around or in your home. The app also gives you a visual cue.

Residents should also use the center's Know Your Zone application to confirm your evacuation level and see the closest shelters, closet special needs and pet-friendly shelters or hotel accommodations.

Note: For best results, use Internet Explorer version 9 or above, Google Chrome or Firefox.
