Hurricane Helene's storm surge lifted a young manatee, named "Troy" by staff, onto MacDill Air Force Base.

TAMPA, Fla. — A young manatee found himself washed onto MacDill Air Force Base "courtesy of Hurricane Helene."

As the Category 4 storm brought record storm surge to the Bay area, officials said that rising water helped lift the 2 to 3-year-old manatee onto the base, which staff decided to name "Troy."

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) helped MacDill staff rescue and safely release "Troy" back into the bay.

"Thanks to the teamwork today, he has a long life ahead of him," officials said.
