MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. — A week after Hurricane Helene devastated Madeira Beach with a record-breaking storm surge, a Winn-Dixie in the area announced it would be providing free food, water and other supplies to more than 500 affected neighbors.
The store, located at 15200 Municipal Drive, will host a drive-thru and walk-up distribution event at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the parking lot. Supplies will be distributed for free on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last, officials said in a news release.
"Winn-Dixie is dedicated to supporting its associates and neighbors in their greatest times of need," officials stated. "Winn-Dixie is deeply rooted in the community and committed to aiding in recovery and rebuilding efforts."
Hurricane Helene is being blamed for more than 166 deaths and billions of dollars in destruction across the Southeast U.S.
More resources are available for those affected by the storm, including help with medical care, food and other needs.
