SARASOTA, Fla. — Water service for customers living on the barrier islands in Sarasota is expected to be restored by Monday morning, Oct. 14, city leaders said in a news release.

Water service will be restored with a precautionary boil water advisory in place, according to the city. Water to the barrier islands was originally shut off to protect the city's utility infrastructure from saltwater inundation due to storm surge from Hurricane Milton.

"Hurricane Milton damaged numerous lines in the water distribution system. Utilities crews have been working around the clock repairing broken lines, only to discover additional breaks," city leaders stated in the release.

Service is expected to be restored for City of Sarasota customers on the barrier islands only, including those in Siesta Key, St. Armands Key, and Lido Key. The boil water advisory will be in place for 72 hours or until tests are clear.
