Video shows Volusia County deputies rescuing elderly woman and her cats from Milton floodwaters

In a Facebook post, the sheriff's office said the woman's daughter hadn't been in contact with her since the hurricane.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — The Volusia County Sheriff's Office released video showing deputies recusing an elderly woman and her two cats from floodwaters brought in by Hurricane Milton.

It happened at a home on Saturday in Samsula, just days after Milton made landfall in Florida. In the video, one of the deputies can be heard greeting the woman at her front door: “Your family called and said they were worried about you."

Deputies are then seen helping the woman onto a small boat, loading it up with some of her bags and two cats, before taking her to dry land.

According to a press release from Governor Ron DeSantis' office, Urban Search and Rescue Teams and the Florida National Guard have rescued nearly 1,800 people and 225 animals since Milton made landfall.

The Florida State Fire Marshal's Office's US&R teams, meanwhile, have successfully rescued 349 civilians and 47 pets, according to the governor's office.

The release also stated that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission rescued 645 people and conducted 335 welfare checks in the 24 hours following the storm.
