When will trash pickup resume after Milton?

TAMPA, Fla. — Hurricane Milton, which brought widespread devastation to communities along Florida's Gulf Coast, affected trash pickup schedules for multiple counties.

Here's when trash pickup will resume in Tampa Bay-area counties after Hurricane Milton.

Citrus County trash

Florida Waste Management said that it will resume collection services for Citrus County on Friday except for certain areas that it may determine to be a safety risk due to flooding or downed utility lines or trees.

Citrus County subscription customers will see a two-hour delay in service.

City of Crystal River

Service for the city of Crystal River customers is impacted by a one-day delay. Thursday customers will have service on Friday, and Friday customers will have service on Saturday. Recycling and yard waste pickup are suspended until further notice.

Service for Meadowcrest and Crystal Oaks Thursday trash customers will be on Friday. Service for all other Thursday trash customers will be on Oct. 14.

City of Inverness

For the city of Inverness, FWM will service Wednesday trash and yard customers on Friday. FWM will service Thursday trash customers on Friday, and Friday trash customers on Saturday.

FWM is asking residents to separate all storm debris/yard waste and storm-impacted items such as furniture from household trash.

FWM said that they expect to complete commercial and roll-off services by Saturday.

Highlands County trash

According to the Highlands County Sheriff's Office, garbage and debris collection services for Waste Collections customers in Highlands County will resume Friday.

Scheduled pickups for Wednesday will take place on Friday, Thursday pickups will be on Saturday and Friday pickups will be on Monday.

The collection schedule for next week will be delayed by one day.

Those who have tree limbs and branches from the storm are asked to put them on the roadside.

Hillsborough County trash

Hillsborough County will resume curbside trash, recycling and yard waste pickup on Friday in areas where it is safe to do so.

Residents whose pickup was missed due to the storm will receive collection service on their next regularly scheduled day. 

The following solid waste collection centers will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

City of Tampa

Storm debris collection will begin on Friday. Regular garbage pickup and recycling services will resume on Monday.

The McKay Bay Transfer Station will be closed on Friday and Saturday due to damage.

Pasco County trash

FWM will resume collection service in Pasco County on Friday.

Residential trash collection for Friday customers will be on Friday. Collections on Monday will be for household trash, and on Wednesday, collections will be for recycling.

Commercial service collection is operating on a one-day delay with Thursday routes collected on Friday, and Friday routes collected on Saturday.

FWM is asking county residents to place storm debris and other bulk items aside from regular household trash.

Pinellas County trash

FWM will resume collection service in Pinellas County on Friday.

Residential collection for Friday routes will be on Friday. Monday collection will be for household trash, and Wednesday will be for recycling.

Commercial service will be a day behind with Thursday routes collected on Friday and Friday routes collected on Saturday.

FWM is asking county residents to place storm debris and other bulk items aside from regular household trash.

City of St. Petersburg

Commercial waste will be picked up on Friday, Oct. 11. The city will let residents know when residential trash pickup will resume.

The city is working to clean up storm debris from Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. Debris should be placed on the curb without a bag.

Polk County trash

Residential curbside collection for Polk County Solid Waste customers will resume on Friday. Thursday's curbside collection customers will see service resume next Thursday, Oct. 17.

Residents in unincorporated Polk County can keep an eye on this webpage for updates, and sign up for text alerts for waste updates by texting “HELLO” to (888) 299-POLK (7655).

City of Winter Haven

According to the city of Winter Haven, storm debris collection will take several weeks to complete in the city. There will be no scheduled debris or bulk collections until all of the debris from Hurricane Milton has been collected.

Manatee County trash

For Manatee County, FWM said they will collect Thursday residential trash customers on Friday, and Friday residential trash customers on Saturday.

Yard waste and recycling collection is suspended for the rest of the week, according to FWM.

Collection on Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island is currently suspended due to lack of access.

FWM is asking county residents to place storm debris and other bulk items aside from regular household trash.

Sarasota County trash

Garbage and yard waste collections for residents in unincorporated Sarasota County will resume on Friday. Recycling services will be suspended until further notice.

The Central County Landfill will reopen with regular business hours on Friday.

Sarasota County is working with vendors to create a plan to collect storm debris from both Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton.

City of Sarasota

Trash pickup in the city of Sarasota will resume Friday with a one-day delay, according to a release from city officials.

Garbage collection scheduled for Thursday will take place Friday, and service scheduled for Friday will take place Saturday.

Recycling collection is currently suspended due to power outages at the recycling processing center.

Officials said that regular yard waste collection is currently postponed until storm debris collection starts. Yard waste can then be included in the "vegetative storm debris piles," which include "downed tree branches, limbs, and vegetative material resulting from Hurricane Helene."

The city is asking residents to sort storm debris into four piles, including vegetative debris. The other three, as defined in the release, include:

  1. Construction debris – fencing, carpeting, drywall and other flood-impacted construction materials
  2. White goods - appliances including refrigerators, ranges, washing machines, dryers, air conditioning units and water heaters
  3. Bulk items – furniture and accessories, mattresses and other items affected by flood water within a home or structure

City of Venice

Regular trash, recycling and yard waste collection will resume on Friday.

A storm debris hauler is working on bulk debris collection throughout the city.
