Tampa-area counties open sandbag sites amid flooded rivers

Those who don't live on the coast are still dealing with river rise inland.

TAMPA, Fla. — People in northwest and central Florida who are not near the coast could be dealing with flooded rivers following Hurricane Milton Friday.

The Category 3 storm made landfall in the Tampa area near Siesta Key on Wednesday, bringing storm surge and causing rivers to rise as it brought damaging winds inland. Several counties in the affected areas are offering sandbag stations. It is advised people bring their own shovels and, in some cases, own bags, especially if they live near a flooded river.
