SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. — Access to Siesta Key, Casey Key and Sarasota County's other barrier islands will shut down as Hurricane Milton continues moving toward Florida's Gulf Coast.

Starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, no one will be able to enter Siesta Key, Casey Key, Longboat Key or Manasota Key until after the post-storm search and rescue mission is completed.

Those living on the barrier islands, however, will be able to continue gathering their belongings and securing their homes for evacuation.

"When you leave the barrier islands, be sure to take everything that you and your family need for evacuation," Sarasota County leaders wrote. "Take enough supplies to last you and your family several days."

Uniformed county personnel will be stationed at the following locations to ensure no one gains entry to the islands:

  • John Ringling Causeway, just west of Golden Gate Point in Sarasota
  • Siesta Drive Bridge, 1400 Siesta Drive in Sarasota
  • Stickney Point Road Bridge, 1512 Stickney Point Road in Sarasota
  • Blackburn Point Swing Bridge, 733 Blackburn Point Road in Osprey
  • Albee Road Bridge, 913 Albee Road in Nokomis
  • Manasota Beach Road Bridge, 2055 Manasota Beach Road in Englewood
