TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa Police rescued 15 people, including children, from a house when a tree crashed into it during Hurricane Milton.

Officers who were taking shelter less than two miles away responded to the emergency and were able to get all occupants out of the home on East Wood Street.

Body camera footage shows officers helping the people in the house, including children, into patrol cars to take them to the closest shelter.

"Every member of this department is committed to the safety of our community," said Chief Lee Bercaw. "The swift actions taken by these officers during a break in the storm bands provided this family with a sense of safety in a time of fear and uncertainty."

Officers are seen and heard comforting a crying child and telling them they will be okay.

One officer also made sure the power in the house was turned off before they all left.
