FORT MYERS, Fla. — One man was reunited with the rescue crew who saved him from his boat after Hurricane Ian made landfall on Thursday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
David Littlefield was found near Pine Island Sound after sending a mayday when his boat began taking on water and was aground, a news release says.
Littlefield put on a lifejacket and activated his Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) and soon after he was located by an aircrew.
"The aircrew located Littlefield by his EPIRB signal, hoisted, and transported him and another survivor to Lee Memorial Gulf Coast Hospital in Ft. Myers," the agency wrote.
Currently, the Coast Guard reports that it has rescued 746 people and 94 pets with crews and assets supporting from across the country.
