TAMPA, Fla. — Hillsborough County officials have extended the local state of emergency following Hurricane Milton.

County Administrator Bonnie Wise signed an executive order extending the state of emergency on Sunday, officials said in a news release. The original order went into effect on Oct. 6 and the extension will remain in effect through Oct. 27.

"A state of local emergency can be in effect for only seven days, unless rescinded or extended," officials stated in the news release. "The emergency declaration gives the County Administrator and emergency managers the ability to quickly take certain actions to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the community, and provides a path for federal reimbursement of certain expenses."

Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Category 3 storm near Siesta Key on Florida's Gulf Coast on Oct. 10. A list of updated recovery updates, including resources, shelters and other information, is available here.
