TAMPA, Fla. — Once again, Hillsborough County officials have extended the local state of emergency following Hurricane Milton.
In a news release, county leaders said the extension will remain in effect through Nov. 18, 2024. The original order went into effect on Sept. 23.
"A state of local emergency can be in effect for only seven days, unless rescinded or extended," officials stated in the release. "The emergency declaration gives the County Administrator and emergency managers the ability to quickly take certain actions to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the community, and provides a path for federal reimbursement of certain expenses."
Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Category 3 storm near Siesta Key on Florida's Gulf Coast on Oct. 10. A list of recovery updates, including resources, shelters and other information is available here.
