NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. — A hauler from Louisiana was arrested in New Port Richey after he allegedly charged residents $1,500 per load to clean up their items after Hurricane Helene before illegally dumping the trash.

The New Port Richey Police Department says Byram Washington would dump the items on private property off Marine Parkway without the owner's permission.

"Washington illegally dumped over 120 yards of furniture and storm debris," officers stated in a news release.

The hauler has been charged with felony illegal dumping of over 500 pounds, according to the department.

New Port Richey police said illegal dumping is a criminal offense under Florida State Statute 412.6.
