TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Food assistance benefits for people in Florida who were scheduled to get them between Sept. 1 and Sept. 14 will be available early, according to the Florida Department of Children and Families.
The USDA approved for the Florida Department of Children and Families to release the September food assistance benefits early to all 67 counties in Florida ahead of Hurricane Dorian.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) customers who were scheduled to get their benefits between Sept. 1 and Sept. 14 will now be able to access them through their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards, as soon as Saturday at noon.
Florida DCF reminded people this is an early release of regular benefits, not a distribution of more funds.
After Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for Hurricane Dorian, DCF asked the USDA to allow September benefits to be released early, according to the USDA.
