Citrus County shelters open ahead of Hurricane Michael making landfall

All Citrus County schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday in advance of Hurricane Michael.

Several Citrus County shelters open Tuesday morning ahead of Hurricane Michael making landfall in the Florida Panhandle.

Michael – which is forecast to become a Category 3 hurricane – is due to make landfall on Wednesday.

All Citrus County schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday in advance of the hurricane.

As of 7 a.m. Tuesday, there are no other school districts with closures in the Tampa Bay area.

The following shelters open at 9 a.m. Tuesday:

General population

Lecanto Middle School

Citrus High School

Pet-friendly shelters

Lecanto Primary School

Special needs

Forest Ridge Elementary
