ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Nature is bringing the holiday cheer across Tampa Bay this year with temperatures expected to be near normal.
Much of the rest of the country will be warmer than normal with no sign of any arctic outbreaks. The polar vortex that can bring us much colder weather in Florida stays well to the north of the Arctic Circle. At the same time, a nice big ridge of high pressure through the center part of the country will keep any strong, big, bad, Grinch-like cold fronts or storm systems from organizing, keeping things on the festive side. So, you can get out and rock around the Christmas Tree in your holiday flip-flops.
Temperatures in Tampa for the last week of December will top out in the 70s and may approach 80 in some of our warmer locations. If you do like cooler weather, we do have some hot cocoa weather at night with lows on the cooler side, mainly in the 50s.
Are you dreaming of a White Christmas?
A White Christmas is defined by having at least one inch of snow on the ground on Christmas morning.
This year, it will tough to meet that criteria.
You will have to go to the higher elevations out west and the far northern portions of the country, from the Dakotas to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There should also be some great skiing across interior New England.
