ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — You may be wondering, "Why is it so windy," and probably sick of having your trash cans being blown about this week.
Florida is locked into a pattern with high pressure to our north and an area of low pressure to the south. When situated in the middle, you're caught in what's considered a strong pressure gradient, and that causes extremely windy or breezy conditions.
The weather pattern is typically calm when we're under high pressure. In this case, we're on the outer edge and on the receiving end of a wind flow coming from the northeast.
Wind flows from high to lower pressure. With an area of low pressure in the Caribbean, we're located in that sweet spot of experiencing higher winds.
Expect another day with more breezy conditions, with winds gusting up to 20-25 mph. Boating conditions will be dangerous for people out on the water. Winds will begin to settle down later this weekend as the low pressure moves away.
