TAMPA, Fla. — The holidays are here and that means good food and good company! This time of year can also mean cold fronts and cooler temperatures which is what we are going to see this Thanksgiving.

A low-pressure system is forecasted to track across the middle of the county for Thanksgiving week. That will bring rain likely across the East Coast on Thanksgiving Eve, which could lead to travel headaches. Behind that front, chilly air will spill across the eastern half of the country.

The Climate Prediction Center is forecasting most of the center and eastern part of the country to experience below-average temperatures from Nov. 22 to Nov. 26.

What does that mean for Thanksgiving weather here in Tampa Bay?

The cold front is likely to move across the area on Wednesday. It will bring some small rain chances. Winds will switch to the north and drag in some cooler and drier air for Thanksgiving. The question is how far south and how strong the cold front will be.

Right now, it looks to be strong enough to clear through the area. Low temperatures Thanksgiving morning will be chilly in the 50s with highs in the lower 70s. It also looks like the day will be dry with most of the state looking dry.

This is still several days out and models can tend to overdue the strength of a cold front this far in advance. But right now expect the coolest Thanksgiving in several years.

The last time we had highs in the low 70s on Thanksgiving Day was back in 2018 when the high was 73 degrees. Our average high is normal in the upper 70s with typical lows in the upper 50s.
