TAMPA, Fla. — Michelin, known for its ratings of restaurants, has now taken its criteria to hotels; finding many of its notable selections to be right here in Florida.
The company’s first-ever list of One, Two and Three Key hotels in its Michelin Guide includes 5,000 hotels across the world, with a total of 15 Florida hotels in that number.
Tampa Bay’s own Palihouse Hyde Park Village and The Tampa EDITION both received the One Key distinction, according to the guide.
Experts describe Palihouse Hyde Park Village as a “remarkably stylish boutique hotel,” while the Tampa EDITION, a “luxe loft style,” 26-story tower in the Water Street district received its own set of props.
The Michelin Star is to restaurants as Michelin Keys are to hotels, which both use the company’s five criteria for its ratings: “excellence in architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for the price, and a significant contribution to the neighborhood or setting.”
One Key is awarded to a hotel with a “very special stay,” so ideally, the more keys a hotel receives, the better the experience will be for its guests.
According to Michelin, for hotels to make the list, they must be “the best of the best in all categories.”
124 hotels in the United States are included in the guide. However only those in Atlanta, California, Chicago, Colorado, Florida, New York, and Washington DC were eligible for the distinction’s first go-round.
