TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa Bay residents who are looking for a beach getaway might not have to look very far.
USA Today ranked the 10 best beaches in Florida with Treasure Island Beach coming in at No. 5 and Clearwater Beach at No. 4.
The article talks about the many beachfront hotels and restaurants on Treasure Island while Cearwater Beach is praised for its white sand and wealth of space for people to either tan, swim, paddleboard or enjoy other activities.
Treasure Island is made up of three different neighborhoods with something for everyone. One has many restaurants and shops, one has a beach trail for walking or bicycling and one is more residential.
Clearwater Beach also has plenty to do and is known for its great sunset views, according to the city's website. Other activities include going fishing on the pier, shopping and watching street performers.
If you plan on visiting either of the beaches, it is best to get there earlier to get a parking spot. Parking lots and spots are metered and you can pay at the pay station or on your smartphone. Also be aware that no animals are allowed on the beaches except for service animals.
Beachgoers who plan on swimming should make sure to do the "stingray shuffle" to warn the animals of your presence so you don't get stung. Shuffle or slide your feet through the sand so they move out of the way.
