Check your flight: Latest delays, cancellations at TPA

TPA plans to remain open on Thursday.

TAMPA, Fla. — As Tropical Storm Nicole moves through Florida, Tampa International Airport plans to remain open.

Some airlines, however, started seeing delays and cancellations Wednesday afternoon — and they've only continued overnight.

So far on Thursday, there have been 65 cancellations and 89 delays — all for domestic flights flying into or departing from TPA, according to flight-tracking site FlightAware.

Although airport officials determined that the expected impacts from the storm are not significant enough to close down operations, they did urge travelers to check with their airlines for the latest flight information.

Tropical Storm Nicole made its first U.S. landfall Thursday morning just south of Vero Beach along Florida's east coast.

Florida's eastern coastline remains at the greatest risk of experiencing hurricane conditions. In the Tampa Bay area, a tropical storm warning is in effect for much of the west coast of Florida for the likely impacts from gusty winds. Heavy downpours and storm surge is possible, too, especially on the Nature Coast where a storm surge warning is in effect.

Regardless of further development or the exact track of the storm, the system will bring heavy rainfall, the risk of coastal flooding, strong winds and rough surf. The southeastern United States coastline, Florida and the Bahamas will all feel the impact of this system during much of this week.
