St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport moves main entrance

Construction from the state's Gateway Express Project is prompting the move.

CLEARWATER, Fla. — The St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport is moving its main entrance because of a roadway project.

Starting Thursday, the main traffic light to enter and exit the airport is located near the air traffic control tower on Roosevelt Boulevard.

Direct access from 46th Street to Airport Parkway will no longer be available.

For access to the airport’s Key Lime economy and employee parking lots, drivers must turn onto 144th Avenue. The Strawberry economy parking lot is now only accessible on the airport’s internal roadways by taking Airport Parkway to Fairchild Drive.

PIE's ground transportation lot has been closed since Feb. 11 and will remain closed for up to 60 days. The airport's short-term parking lot closed last week for about six months.

PIE officials advise travelers to plan for extra time as construction continues in the area.

The construction is part of the Florida Department of Transportation's Gateway Express Project.
