TAMPA, Fla. — As of Monday afternoon, 40 Spirit Airlines flights have either been canceled or delayed as the low-cost airline tries to wrap up safety inspections on some of its airplanes, according to FlightAware.
Spirit announced its safety inspections on Friday, Oct. 20. By the end of Saturday, the airline had canceled 185 flights in order to conduct the inspections and announced that the cancellations could affect customers for "several days."
While Spirit did not provide any details or timelines of the inspections, the Federal Aviation Administration said the inspections fall under "mandatory maintenance."
This is not the first time Spirit has faced ongoing flight cancellations this year. In June, a network issue caused the airline to delay 500 flights.
