TAMPA, Fla. - The new SkyConnect train system at Tampa International Airport opens on Wednesday.
The 1.4-mile track links the main terminal with the airport's new car rental complex.
The new rental car complex features 2.6 million square feet of counter space, parking, maintenance facilities and weather-sheltered pickup and drop-off areas.
Last week, Gov. Rick Scott and Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn attended a ribbon cutting for the new SkyConnect system.
The state of Florida chipped in about half of the $412 million it took to construct the rail system, including the main terminal and 12 trains. It's part of a $2.3 billion overhaul at the airport.
