MIAMI — They’re bigger, more luxurious – and right in our backyard. Six new cruise ships will set sail from Florida in 2020.

First up – The Mardis Gras. Carnival’s largest-ever ship will call Port Canaveral home. And it will need the extra space. The ship features a first-of-its-kind roller coaster at sea. Clearly, that’s not for people to tend to get a bit seasick, but it’s not the ship’s only ‘first’. It’s the only one in North America that runs on liquefied natural gas.

If size matters, MSC is giving other cruise lines a run for their money. The Mergaviglia is one of the largest ships ever built, and it will be based in PortMiami. The Orlando Sentinel reports its onboard entertainment options include original Cirque du Soleil shows.

Billionaire Richard Branson isn’t going for ‘family-friendly’ with his new Virgin Voyages line. The Scarlet Lady is adults-only, so it may be a bit easier to take a nice nap on the lido deck. It will dock in Miami too.

Next up – The Odyssey of the Seas. Royal Caribbean calls its brand new Quantum Ultra Class ship a ‘gamechanger.’ Basically – it’s big. Up to 4,200 passengers will set sail from Port Everglades and make stops across the Caribbean. Oh, and you can go surfing on board too.

The Celebrity Apex will also call Port Everglades home. It boasts ‘infinite’ balconies and a roving deck that travels up and down the side of the ship. Celebrity calls it “the magic carpet.”

Then, there’s Regent. Its Seven Seas Splendor ship prioritizes luxury over size. Its 750 passengers who board in Miami will enjoy a Monte Carlo-style casino, fine dining, a library and ‘thought-provoking’ lectures at sea.
