TAMPA, Fla. — An open door indicator light caused a United Airlines flight from Sarasota to make an emergency landing Wednesday afternoon at Tampa International Airport, TPA officials told 10 Tampa Bay.
United Airlines flight 2434 left Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport for Chicago at 3:42 p.m. but was diverted to Tampa less than an hour later, landing at 4:35 p.m., according to flight-tracking site FlightAware.
Airport officials said the plane landed safely and appeared to be fine. No one was injured. Firefighter rescue vehicles did respond to the airport which is standard procedure in these instances.
FlightAware shows that flight 2434 was set to depart from Tampa just before 6 p.m. to arrive in Chicago at 7:20 p.m.
10 Tampa Bay reached out to United Airlines for a response and is waiting to hear back.
This emergency landing comes just days after United Airlines said it found loose bolts and other “installation issues” on a part of some Boeing 737 Max 9 jets.
The planes were inspected after a large panel on the side of a similar Alaska Airlines jet blew out mid-flight on Friday.
The Federal Aviation Administration grounded all Max 9s operated by Alaska and United and some flown by foreign airlines after a terrifying flight on Friday night.
The Boeing jetliner that suffered an inflight blowout over Oregon was not being used for long flights over water after a warning light that could have indicated a pressurization problem lit up on three different flights.
Alaska Airlines decided to restrict the aircraft from long flights so the plane “could return very quickly to an airport” if the warning light reappeared, Jennifer Homendy, chair of the National Transportation Safety Board, said Sunday.
