TAMPA, Fla — Just in time for the Thanksgiving rush, Delta Airlines rolled out a new biometric check-in process where passengers will no longer need a boarding pass.
Instead, their face will serve as their ticket.
For some, it makes the process more personal and for others, it’s a bit too personal. It’s already underway in Atlanta and Detroit.
Here’s how it works, you pull up to the kiosk, drop your mask, and facial recognition software matches a new picture taken of you with your passport photo on file, and you’re on your way.
This is all in conjunction with the Transportation Security Administration. Passengers who choose to use this technology to check-in get to skip interacting with a TSA agent.
To join the program through Delta you must be a sky miles customer and have TSA precheck.
The goal is to expand the technology to all airlines. Right now, though, Delta is the only airline fully using the program.
Biometric technology has been in place for about three years.
