Delays, cancellations pile up at Tampa Bay-area airports due to Hurricane Debby

Check your flight status as the region continues to feel the effects of Hurricane Debby's outer rainbands.

TAMPA, Fla. — Flight delays and cancellations at Tampa International Airport are counted in the hundreds on Monday due to the ongoing effects of Hurricane Debby.

As of this writing, there are 156 cancellations and 140 delays out of a total of 491 flights, according to the airport's flight status page.

Officials said the airport remains operation and operational, however, more slowdowns are expected for the rest of the day. Passengers are urged to check in with their airline for their latest flight status.

Nearly every airline is affected by the weather, with Southwest Airlines leading the pack with most flight cancellations, followed by American Airlines and Spirit, according to the flight-tracking website FlightAware.

Benjamin Robins, the vice president of operations at TPA, said the airport was fully operational during the storm and launched 70 percent of flights during the day Sunday while the other 30 percent were canceled. About the same is happening on Monday.

The airport's facilities and runways were not impacted by the storm, Robins said.

At St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport, there are 16 delays and 16 cancellations, FlightAware data shows.

There are 18 canceled flights and four delays at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport

The Tampa Bay region has experienced heavy rainfall, winds and flooding as Debby pressed inland after making landfall in the Big Bend region of the state.

Yesterday, Tampa International Airport experienced more than a combined total of 300 delays and cancellations. At St. Pete-Clearwater International, there were 38 total delays and seven cancellations. At Sarasota Bradenton International there were just under 50 total delays and cancellations.
