Disney Cruise Line has announced it will extend its cancellation of select cruises throughout the month April and early May.
The company says it's still carefully preparing for a return to service in 2021 but is waiting on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to approve new protocols.
For that reason, the following cruises are canceled:
- The Disney Fantasy will not set sail through April 24.
- The Disney Dream cruises are halted through April 30.
- The Disney Magic will not sail through May 9.
- The Disney Wonder is halted through May 12.
The company says guests who are affected by the cancellations can receive a cruise credit for future sailings or a full refund.
At the start of 2021, Disney Cruise Line announced the same cancellations through March. But, without government approval, ships will remain docked at major ports across the country.
The cruise line industry has essentially been aground since March of last year when the CDC announced a no-sail-order for all U.S. ports following several outbreaks aboard various vessels. The order was continuously renewed throughout the year before expiring in October 2020 after new safety guidelines were created. However, many companies have taken it upon themselves to halt operations until they meet those new guidelines.
In order to resume sailing, the CDC says companies have to prove they have procedures for testing, quarantining and isolating passengers and crew if an outbreak were to occur. Cruises would need to have test labs aboard every ship and make arrangements for isolating passengers onshore.
