New airline offers $59 flights from Tampa to just outside NYC

Travelers will be able to enjoy beaches in Florida or soak in the greater New York City region with low fares.

TAMPA, Fla. — A new lost-cost airline is making its way to Tampa Bay. And soon travelers will get to take advantage of the affordable prices.

Avelo Airlines is coming to Tampa International Airport in November to offer new nonstop routes to New Haven, Conn.

The brand new airline, founded by Andrew Levy — the same man who co-founded Allegiant Air, debuted in the skies in April.

With ticket prices starting as low as $59, travelers will be able to enjoy beaches in Florida or soak in the greater New York City region with just one flight.

"We are looking forward to bringing more choice, affordability and the Avelo Soul of Service to Tampa," Levy said in a news release.  "With nonstop flights to one of the area's most hassle-free airports, travelers from Tampa will now have a smoother way to visit Southern Connecticut and experience all the region has to offer."

Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano says that the airport is delighted to be an expansion market for Avelo. They look forward to introducing passengers to this destination.

Flights will only be available on three days of the week: Monday, Friday, and Saturday.

The 737-700 aircraft will hold up to 149 passengers at once.

Avelo Airlines is scheduled to launch on Nov. 15 and is now bookable on their website.
