SARASOTA, Fla. — Starting this week, traveling from the Tampa Bay area to Oklahoma and Washington D.C. will get much easier.

Low-cost carrier Allegiant this week announced it will offer a new nonstop route between Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport and Tulsa, Oklahoma, as well as Washington, D.C.

To celebrate the announcement, SRQ and Allegiant are offering fares for as low as $43 to Tulsa International Airport. For people traveling to Dulles International Airport in D.C., fares will be as low as $39.

Allegiant says the new flights will operate twice weekly. Flight times, days and fares can be found online.

“The appeal of a warm winter getaway to Florida is never lost on our customers, and we’re thrilled to offer them what we think will be two new popular options for visiting Sarasota,” said Drew Wells, Allegiant’s senior vice president of revenue and planning. “These routes will also give Sarasota residents the chance to reconnect with family and friends in Tulsa and Washington, D.C.”

In recent months, Allegiant has announced plenty of new routes across the Tampa Bay area. Further north at St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport, the airline has announced trips to Florida's own Key West, Arkansas, Utah and others.

More Americans are taking to the skies since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, with more than 2.4 million people moving through Transportation Security Administration checkpoints on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, according to The Washington Post.

About 20.9 million people were screened during the 10-day holiday travel period that ended that Sunday, a TSA spokesperson told the outlet.
