School bus drivers get a special 'thank you' this month

The American School Bus Council celebrates February as Love the Bus month, thanking bus drivers for all they do.

As we celebrate Valentine’s Day, transportation officials want your help sharing the love, as well, for bus drivers.

This month, the American School Bus Council celebrates Love the Bus month.

The month-long initiative highlights the importance school drivers have in education and shows appreciation for taking more than 25 million children to-and-from school every day.

They’re asking participants to share their appreciation for bus drivers on social media with the hashtag #LoveTheBus.

While the job itself can be tough, today’s bus drivers are getting praise for making students a priority, despite driver shortages and a global pandemic.

In addition to showing appreciation, the initiative is also about bus safety education. School bus traffic laws are strictly enforced, making them safer, cleaner and more diligently maintained than ever before. The American School Bus Council reports students are 70 times more likely to get to school safely by school bus instead of the car. Department of Transportation stats show school buses are safer than cars when it comes to avoiding crashes and injuries.

So, with that in mind, there are several ways you can show the love. They include everything from a certificate of appreciation, to coloring sheets, cards, and magnets.

If you can’t do any of that, a thank you during this #LoveTheBus month, goes a long way.
