ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Heads up, if you live in St. Pete.

Because so many people have been visiting the St. Pete Pier recently, local leaders are taking steps to protect folks during the holiday season.

The St. Pete Police Department announced Tuesday that it would be closing Bayshore Drive N.E. to car traffic from Central Avenue to 5th Avenue N.E. twice before year's end.

The closures will be the next two Saturdays (Dec. 18 and Christmas Day) from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

"This is a temporary measure for pedestrian safety during the holidays," the agency wrote in an email.

There was no immediate indication that any other dates would be affected.
