ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A person was killed after a crash involving a car, pickup truck, and a box truck on 34th Street North in St. Petersburg, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash reportedly happened around 3 a.m. Saturday after the driver of a Toyota Camry fled a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 19. That driver, who had three passengers in their car, continued south to 34th Street North. The traffic stop was initially conducted because a trooper saw the car drive over a median.

After avoiding an FHP trooper's PIT maneuver, the driver eventually made their way further southbound before nearly hitting a semi-truck that was turning onto 34th Street North.

The driver of the Camry is said to have swerved into the northbound lanes to avoid the semi before crashing into a box truck and pickup truck, which were both stopped at a traffic signal, according to troopers.

After the crash, one of the passengers in the Camry suffered serious injuries before dying at the hospital, FHP said. All other drivers and passengers involved suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital, except for two men in the pickup.

According to FHP, all 4 people in the Camry ranged between 18 to 20 years old. No charges have been filed yet, as troopers are working to find out which one of them was driving.

The crash is still under investigation, according to FHP.
