SARASOTA, Fla. — Drivers in Sarasota ran into a roadblock Thursday evening when they drove up to the Siesta Key North Drawbridge and realized it was stuck open.
The bridge got stuck around 5:10 p.m. due to a mechanical failure, according to the Florida Department of Transportation. It was reopened around 7:40 p.m. after crews made repairs to the hydraulic system.
Sarasota police initially reported major traffic delays caused by the bridge's malfunction.
"Engineers worked swiftly to make repairs and will continue monitoring the bridge. The bridge is fully operational to motorists and boaters," FDOT wrote in a Friday morning update.
