THONOTOSASSA, Fla. — All southbound lanes of Interstate 75 reopened Thursday after a semi caught fire.
Florida Highway Patrol said a mechanical issue caused a fire to break out at the rear of the tractor and could not be contained by the driver. The fire is now out where the truck stopped on I-75 just before East Fletcher Avenue.
Lanes of southbound I-75 were closed for several hours before being reopened at 8:15 a.m.
FHP said the truck was carrying 5,000 pounds of new, but empty, Bang energy drink cans.
