Punta Gorda, Florida (WINK) - A nine-vehicle crash that left one person dead and several others hurt Tuesday snarled traffic on the bridge over the Peace River in Punta Gorda.
Th northbound side of the highway reopened about 7:30 p.m., after being shut down for the investigation.
The crash was near the Harborview Road exit, mile marker 167.
The Florida Highway Patrol said a dump truck rear-ended another vehicle and that set off a chain-reaction series of crashes.
Reports said one person is dead, one is hospitalized with critical injuries and two other people are hospitalized with less serious injuries.

This crash was a separate incident from the other crash being worked farther north on I-75 near Rampart Boulevard. Emergency personnel are on the scene at both crash scenes.
At this point, all northbound traffic on I-75 is being detoured at US 17. Southbound I-75 traffic may also be slow due to onlookers.
Officials say it is unknown how long these conditions will last due to the seriousness of both crashes.
