Dade City, Florida -- A young child was killed in a morning crash that shut down southbound lanes of Interstate 75 on Monday morning.

The accident happened around 10 a.m. on southbound I-75, near CR 41 by the Dade City exit.

The Florida Highway Patrol says a Ford Mustang was driving at a high rate of speed in the outside lane, where a vehicle carrying a family of four was driving slowly with its hazard lights on, due to a mechanical issue.

The Mustang rear-ended the other car in an active construction zone, causing it to hit a barrier wall and overturn.

The driver of the Mustang, 22-year-old Caitlin Marie Grace, was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The family in the other vehicle, who were returning from a Tennessee vacation to Cape Coral, were all taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. FHP says a 5-year-old child died from his injuries at the hospital.

The crash closed all southbound lanes of traffic for approximately one hour, followed by an outside lane closure which remained in effect until all lanes were reopened at 1:30.
