TAMPA, Fla. — Florida drivers are paying slightly less for a gallon of gas after prices dropped by a few cents over the weekend.
Florida gas prices reached a new 2024 high in Florida last week, pushing to $3.46 per gallon after a 15-cent spike, on average, according to AAA.
Those prices dropped a few cents back down to $3.43 over the weekend. Prices for regular gas in the Tampa Bay area are about the same as of March 11.
A combination of high demand, storm impacts and economic effects are to blame for the price hike last week, AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said.
“Gasoline and oil futures moved lower late last week, reportedly due to uncertainty about whether the Federal Reserve would cut interest rates later this year. This could temporarily cause the gas price hike to stall," Jenkins said in a statement.
The most expensive gas prices are found in South Florida while the least expensive are found in Florida’s Panhandle.
To save gas, AAA recommends people combine errands, shop around for the best prices and drive conservatively — aggressive acceleration and speeding reduces fuel economy.
