AAA: Florida gas prices fall to 3-month lows

Throughout the past month, gas prices in Florida have been mostly on a downward spiral with the average going from $3.69 per gallon to $3.33 per gallon.

TAMPA, Fla. — Now's the time to fill up the tank with gas prices in Florida sinking to their lowest levels yet in three months.

According to a report from AAA, prices at the pump averaged $3.33 per gallon on Sunday after going down 15 cents last week.

Throughout the past month, gas prices in the Sunshine State have been mostly on a downward spiral with the average going from $3.69 per gallon to $3.33 per gallon.

"The discount at the pump has largely been driven by falling oil prices," AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said in a statement. "However, the downward trend could stall soon. Ongoing geopolitical tensions allowed oil prices to regain some strength last week, though they remain below price levels we saw three weeks ago."

The nonprofit explains the U.S. price of crude oil settled at $87.69 per barrel on Friday which is 6 percent more than the week before. It's also much below the $93 per barrel highs seen on Sept. 27.

"The increase came after The Group of Seven (G7) announced plans to provide financial assistance to Ukraine by tightening sanctions against Russia" AAA leaders explain online. "The market is also uneasy about the Israel-Gaza conflict."

The price of oil was trending lower Sunday night in trading overnight, according to the nonprofit.

Here's a breakdown of Florida gas price averages from AAA:

  • Sunday: $3.33
  • Saturday: $3.34
  • Week Ago: $3.47
  • Month Ago: $3.63
  • One Year Ago: $3.40

Here are some ways AAA says to save on gas::

  • Combine errands to limit driving time.
  • Shop around for the best gas prices in your community.
  • Pay with cash. Some retailers charge extra per gallon for customers who pay with a credit card.
  • Remove excess weight in your vehicle. Every 100 pounds taken out of the vehicle improves fuel economy by 1-2 percent.
  • Drive conservatively. Aggressive acceleration and speeding reduces fuel economy.
