ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A man is dead and a woman is hospitalized following a crash on Gandy Boulevard in St. Petersburg, Florida Highway Patrol says.
The crash happened just after 10:30 p.m. on eastbound Gandy Boulevard near San Fernando Boulevard, not far from The Getaway restaurant. According to troopers, a 58-year-old man from Hopatcong, New Jersey, tried to cross Gandy Boulevard when he was hit by the driver of a Nissan, a 23-year-old Seminole woman.
The woman reportedly stopped and got out of her car to try to help the man. However, as she was trying to help, she was hit by another driver, a 23-year-old woman from Tampa, going eastbound on Gandy.
The 58-year-old man was rushed to the hospital where he died from his injuries. The 23-year-old Seminole woman was also hospitalized, but troopers said her injuries are not life-threatening.
The other driver from Tampa was not hurt.
The eastbound lanes of Gandy Boulevard were shut down for several hours while troopers investigated.
