Fire shuts down 3 lanes along St. Pete-bound side of Howard Frankland Bridge

It was not immediately clear if anybody was hurt.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A car fire is slowing traffic heading toward St. Petersburg on the Hillsborough County side of the Howard Frankland Bridge.

The fire broke out around 3 p.m. near mile marker 35 on I-275 South.

A Florida Department of Transportation camera showed thick, black smoke lowering visibility on the bridge. Florida 511 classified the situation as "major" and said the three left lanes were blocked.

First responders were dispatched to the scene.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire or whether anybody was injured.
