Tampa police investigating car crash that left woman dead, man injured

The crash reportedly occurred around 11:47 a.m. when officers arrived to find an overturned car with a man and woman inside, both in their late seventies.

TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Police Department is currently investigating a serious deadly crash in the area of West Hillsborough Avenue and North 11th Street.

The crash reportedly occurred around 11:47 a.m. when officers arrived to find an overturned car with a man and woman inside, both in their late seventies, Tampa Police said in a news release.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the man was taken to the hospital in stable condition, according to police.

Investigators reported the car was driving westbound on East Hillsborough Avenue in the inside lane near North 12th Street before veering to the left side of the roadway for unknown reasons. The car rolled before striking a utility pole and landing on its roof just south of North 11th, according to officers.

Tampa police said the man, who was driving, "showed no signs of impairment."

The crash is still under investigation.
