PALM HARBOR, Fla. — A person was killed and two others were hurt in a crash Thursday afternoon on East Lake Road in Palm Harbor.
The Florida Highway Patrol says at 1:37 p.m., a 21-year-old man was driving a Chevy Tahoe northbound on East Lake Road when he made an improper lane change to avoid stopped traffic.
When he changed lanes, he reportedly crashed into the side of a Chevy Camaro driven by a 39-year-old Texas woman.
The crash sent the Camaro into the southbound lanes where it hit two other cars. The Tahoe traveled forward and came to a stop on Eagle Cove Boulevard.
The woman driving the Camaro was transported to the hospital where she died from her injuries. The drivers of the two cars hit in the southbound lanes, a 59-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man, suffered minor injuries.
The 21-year-old man driving the Tahoe was not hurt.
The road was closed between Village Center Drive/Ridgemoor Boulevard and Lansbrook Parkway/Cypress Woods Boulevard for several hours but has since reopened.
The area is near the Lake Tarpon Villages neighborhood and Ridgemoor Starbucks location.
